Opening the Doors for People with Disabilities into Employment

As part of the welfare to work changes, people with disabilities are a major candidate group for all employment services. This training program has been developed for Job Network members and new DEN staff. Using an interactive facilitation style, the program will provide valuable practical skills to assist consultants to work effectively and confidently with job seekers with a disability in preparing, placing and retaining work.

This one or two day training program provides a clear understanding of each disability groups, communication protocols, the barriers and perceptions. It provides consultants with best practice techniques in assessment and interviewing, developing activity agreements, quality service provision including preparing candidates for work; Motivating and job seeker ownership; vocational guidance; job search techniques; reverse marketing, placement and post placement strategies. A key component of the training focuses on compliance, legislation and duty of care.
