Intercultural Engagement@Work

More than half of all Australians were either born overseas, or have at least one parent born overseas. How do you fully engage a culturally diverse workforce with key organisational challenges?

Australia is a nation of great cultural and linguistic diversity, and our workplaces are increasingly reflecting this. Australian organisations are beginning to understand that there is a tremendous strategic advantage in matching the demographics of their customer base or service users. The meeting of diverse cultures, values and religions in the workplace offers both opportunities and risks. Australian organisations are not currently realising all the benefits of a culturally diverse workforce, especially for engaging with prospective partners and employees overseas.

Diversity@work's Intercultural Engagement assists managers, employees and specialist staff to move from awareness of cultural diversity to a deeper understanding of and ability to work with cultural difference. The key challenge for this process is learning how to access and utilise the knowledge of their diverse teams.

Through group discussions and interactive skill-building activities participants will develop practical tools for negotiating cultural difference in their workplaces. Barriers to the inclusion of cultural diversity will be discussed and strategies will be developed to implement and leverage workplace cultural diversity. This package can also be used to assist whole teams to harness their collective and diverse talents.
