Philip Garside
Learning & Development
Philip Garside is a consultant trainer who provides training courses and management advice to many of Australia's major organisations. Although Philip writes and delivers courses in general Human Resources areas such as preventing discrimination and harassment in the workplace, conducting investigations, negotiation skills, conflict resolution, mediation and managing diversity, one of his most popular courses is training people in how to present themselves at job interviews.
Philip provides interview skills training to clients who wish their employees to improve their interview performance when presenting themselves for promotional opportunities, or who are preparing their staff for a change in career. Philip has had outstanding success in preparing applicants for interview, and has written a book on the subject, entitled The Secrets to Getting a Job. This book is a best-seller, and is predicted to be the standard text for Australian job seekers over the next few years.
The origins of the book derived from when Philip was a manager with the CES some years ago and was tired of seeing good workers not able to find work because they were not able to get past the bureaucratic impediment called a selection process. What he did from there was to sit in on over a hundred different interviews - different positions, different organisations, different industries - just sitting and watching, noting what worked and what didn't work. The results of this research are the basis for the book.
Philip has been training in his areas of expertise for over seventeen years. His strength is his ability to write and create training which is engaging, entertaining, yet still informative, and which can deliver attitudinal change. He has a wide range of experience which, as well as training, includes management experience in both the private and public sector, and time as a union official.
Philip's formal education was in Administration and Youth Affairs at the Phillip Institute in Melbourne.
