Harnessing Diversity

A report released by the Victorian Equal Opportunity & Human Rights Commission suggests that the odds are against new arrivals from non-English speaking countries when it comes to finding employment.  Despite a number of these candidates possessing overseas qualifications, there exists evidence of racial and religious discrimination which prevents a transition into employment.  It seems illogical that such barriers exist at a time when some sectors of the job market are running at 20% vacancy rates.  The report includes key findings and recommendations from the community consultations and a literature review.  In moving forward it is necessary for industry to recognise it is necessary to capitalise upon the diverse talents and capabilities of all its working age population to ensure prosperity of all in the future.
