These workshops are offered by Diversity@work to graduates and students from an international background or with special needs. These workshops will provide the chance to meet and network with other students and graduates whilst developing skills and expertise to "Cross the Career Bridge".
"Crossing the Career Bridge" - Workshop Series
The "Crossing the Career Bridge" Program is a series of 4 interactive and practical workshops. The Program runs over a 4 week period, one day per week, and 2.5 hours per session. That's a total of 10 hours commitment to enhance each participants road to career success.
By the end of the workshop you will have the following:
- A clear career path
- A professional resume and cover letter that promotes your true potential
- An understanding of Australian Business and Culture
- Improved marketability at interviews
- A guide on building and using networks
- A strategy on approaching and succeeding in the employment market
- The Edge - confidence; motivation; ability and direction
Workshop 1: Your Career Journey - Beyond Study
This workshop will reflect on your career path and choices. It will examine where you are now and what options or paths are available to you to meet your goal. It will identify what you need personally and practically to ensure you have the edge over other graduates.
Learning Outcomes:
- How do I get the edge?
- Self Assessment - Where am I now? What else do I need to ensure success?
- Career Goals and Direction
- Developing a Job Search Plan
- Target Markets to meet Career Goals
Workshop 2: Promote yourself to success
This workshop will be highly practical and will support you to identify your skills, interests and abilities and how these can be transferred in a business environment. You will also be coached on how to prepare a resume and cover letter that will enhance your chances to get short listed for interviews. Lastly, the session will also demonstrate the importance of building networks and how to go about expanding your present ones.

- Understanding the importance of a Cover Letter
- What are networks?
- How do I build networks and use them to my advantage?
Workshop 3: The Recruitment Process - The what, where and hows?
This workshop takes you through the recruitment process. It demonstrates methods of job search including non-traditional techniques and explains how recruitment services operate so you can maximise your success. In addition, this session will provide you with advice on how to prepare yourself for an interview; the skills to enhance your success in behavioural, group and panel interviews and how to address those more challenging questions and employer concerns.

- Where to look for career jobs? Traditional and non-traditional techniques.
- The Recruitment industry - how it works and how to make the most of it.
- The interview process - Behavioural Interviews; Panel or Group Interviews - what a student or graduate needs to know?

- Why follow up is the key?
Workshop 4: The Australian Business Market
The final workshop explores the essentials of the Australian Business Market. For students who have not worked extensively in Australia previously, starting employment or your career job can be riddled with challenges. This session will review the fundamentals about working in Australian Business; understanding work culture along with rights and responsibilities in the workplace. This session will focus on enhancing your cultural fit and alignment to ensure ongoing career success. This session will also brings all your learnings together. It assists you to develop an action plan on where to from here.

$650.00 plus GST for 4 sessions.
